Translation of Aleksandrs Čaks poem collection ‘Heart on the Sidewalk’ in Ukrainian.
Aleksandrs Čaks (1901-1950) is the first Latvian poet whose work is profoundly urban. Čaks’ poetry reflects his deep-seated love for Riga, and his depiction of the swift city life in Riga, including themes and characters that had never appeared in poetry before – urban nightlife, coachmen, the hobbos and harlots in deprived suburbs. Čaks’ works declared the beginning of modern Latvian poetry. ‘The Heart on the Sidewalk’ is the first collection of Čaks’s poems and was published in 1928.
